During the peak and worst period of the Pandemic between Feb 2020 and mid of 2021, and due to the complete lockdown in this city, I had no choice but just stayed home without any consultancy work, so I decided to learn something new, which was to target building a home LAMP ( Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP ) mini server to manage my Hang Seng stock portfolio myself.
I spent nearly 12 months time on this by building and learning the following:
- Bought 2 Raspberry pi 3b model and installed Raspbian OS
- Viewed tons of youtube videos on how-to install LAMP
- Trial and Error million times and finally got my Pi running LAMP successfully
- Also installed No-IP to build my free domain
- Learn to configure my home internet routers doing port forwarding on port 80, 3336, etc.
- Installed Plex media server at the same time to stream my home’s mp3 songs and mp4 videos
- I started to program in MySQL scripts and design my portfolio Database to store my portfolio records
- Then I moved forward to start learning RapidAPIs on simple APIs like Yahoo Finance so that I could write crontab scripts to get via API calls my portfolio stock closing prices at 4:45pm after each trading day closed
- I developed all those Linux auto scripts to update my portfolio and calculate the 10th, 20th, 50th and 100th daily averages
-Then I downloaded PowerBI desktop from Microsoft to start building my BI dashboards…took me 3-4 months - all the above took me 12 months to develop, design, re-design, develop and debug, test and deploy
- And it was a lot of funs, with days and nights spent on Youtube, GITHUB, googling…
Finally since mid 2021 up to now for nearly 4 years, I’d gathered around 5 years of valuable stats of my portfolio, which is a great digital assets I built with hard efforts…with no buddy AI involved at all…
Cause I still only believe human intelligence HI 😃And I am so proud of myself being able to do all these at the age of 60+
